Coke Names

October 21, 2011

We have all seen the gleeful posts on Facebook of people posting bottles of Coke with their name pasted all over it. Coco-Cola has a promotion running encouraging people to share a Coke with your friends. The marketing guise of buying a Coke not to quench your thirst but rather as a unique gift that has a personalised name on it, is a creative idea. But what’s the deal with some of the names on these bottles.

Last night while shopping I saw a shelf stacked full of the following two names.

Either some marketing guy was smashed, perhaps on Cokes’ old recipes when typing the names, mistyping ‘Aarav’ instead of ‘Aaron’ (who knows what Fadi was meant to be) or Coke really needs to research what names are popular. BTW I hear Sasha is popular *nudge* (at least for dogs…)

A couple of weeks ago when I saw ‘Wen’ as one of the names, I had a theory that some Coke execs’ son got his name on one of the bottles. Now with these other wacked-out names floating around, I came to believe the execs must be playing around with a Sarah-Palin-name-generator.

The whole thing reminds me of the old Simpsons scene:

Bart: Cool! Personalized plates! Barcley, Barry, Barry, Bert, Bort…come on…Bort?
Kid: Mommy mommy! Buy me a license plate!
Mom: No! Come along Bort!
Guy: Are you talking to me?
Mom: No, my son’s name is also Bort.

Sorry Sash, but you’ll find some of those “wacky” names can actually be quite common in certain parts of Sydney …

Yeh you’re right. I better not diss the Fadi’s out there, otherwise they will call up all their cousins to get me.

I just read that Araav is an Indian name. You know any Aaravs?

I find this a little upsetting as Coke has printed 150 names and most of them are very very common and my name is one of them. Soo many people have been complaining and getting annoyed that there are “Fadi” and “Araav” like names on the bottles. WOW. 2 or 3 “odd” names out of 150. To be honest I know many people named Fadi or Fady, and they are spread throughout Sydney.

      Hi Jessica
Forgive me if my post upset you. It was not a very serious post. I was making fun of the use of the names which I honestly never heard before (but which are apparently rather popular). I would probably not even write the entry if they were names that are not as common but which I have heard.
