Great off-leash dog park – Western Sydney
Today we took our dogs to a dog park we have not been to before. A large billboard depicting excited eye-bulging dogs first caught our eyes when we drove down the Great Western highway earlier in the week. “Off leash dog park next left” was clearly marked on the advertisement – we had to go see.
The place is called Bungarribee Park and is off Doonside Road, Doonside. The facility is one of a number of things to do in the Parklands. There is apparently also a great bike trail and a number of BBQ areas strewn around the elongated reserve, which hopefully we can check out soon as well.
When we arrived and parked, we found a large arrow-head shaped off-leash dog area with about two dozen dogs playing, chasing, exploring and meeting other dogs. The area is large enough for dog owners who want a bit of privacy to find their own spot or else just let their dogs mingle with others while you chat with their owners.
Living in Western Sydney, I have been envious of the excellent dog friendly beaches available to the Eastern suburbs. The Western suburbs have been lacking good places for dog owners to take their dogs. However it seems that local councils are finally making an effort to provide some facilities that dog owners can use and enjoy and not feel left out.
We will definitely come back there to help our dogs socialise.
