Can of Worms

July 4, 2011

Just finished watching the first episode of the channel Ten show ‘Can of worms’. The idea of the show is to bring up potentially controversial topics (i.e. Is it okie to spy on your kids on the computer) and present the questions for discussion to the three guests of the show who have to give their honest and open thoughts. They may only answer as ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to make their opinions more contrasting & jagged. After that their views are compared against the views of the wider Australia.

When I heard about the show through ads it interested me, because I like discussing those sort of topics and see where people are coming from, how they form their thoughts, beliefs and if I happen to disagree with them, why do we disagree.

I think it’s a good concept and can for make a good conversation at the table.

The thing that I found most amusing is the answers some parents gave on the street when a fake internet safety consultant was proposing bogus ideas that would allow the parents to monitor their children. One of the concepts was a tracking devise that the parent could slip into the lunch that would track the kid for six months. The mum was like ‘yes that would be cool’. It reminded me of something from the movie ‘Total Recall’ when Schwarzenegger has a tracking devise implanted into his nose

I was hoping the show would be similar to another similar show I enjoy on SBS called ‘Insight’ which has a topic of discussion between audience members every week. The calibre of answers on ‘can of worms’ didn’t match up to Insight, but you can argue their approaches are different. ‘Can of worms’ is a much more humorous concept while Insight delves much deeper into the subjects and has guests who specialise in the topics.

Anyway, If you managed to catch the show and liked it, or thought it was rubbish I would like to hear your opinion.

Sounds like an interesting show. Hardly anything good on TV. It’s all repetitive. Sounds like something that may win me back, will try to check it out sometime.

Dicko should tell Meshel Lawrie to wear something more suited to her weight!!! That woman has no idea how to dress for her size she needs a stylist – nothing wrong with carrying a bit of weight but how you dress is important when on the box!!!! Okay for when she is on radio we do not have to see – I am not being unkind just constructive.

The concept was okay first night so hopefully will improve and be a little more controversial.
